  Required Documents.

  We will require certain documents from you when opening an account with us.
For existing South African Standard Bank transactional (current or savings) account customers, we will endeavour to obtain your KYC documentation from the branch, failing to do so may result in us requesting some or all of the following documentation below.

For non Standard Bank transactional account customers or Standard Bank customers residing in Namibia, Swaziland or Lesotho, certified copies or originals of these documents will have to be posted to us.


Individual - South African Standard Bank transactional account customer
  1. A valid South African identity document.
  2. Proof of residential address, for example, water and electricity bill (not older than three months), your bank statement (not older than three) or current lease agreement. The documents must be in the name of the account holder. If not, written confirmation from the account holder that the applicant lives at the residential address and a certified copy of the account holder's identity document is required.
  3. A cancelled cheque or bank statement not older than 3 months(Please note that we do accept electronic statements. Only an unedited email from your bank with the attached statement will be accepted). The name of the bank account must correspond with the applicant’s details.
  4. Proof of income tax number, for example, copy of an official document issued by the South African Revenue Services. (Please note that an IRP5 will not be accepted).

For non Standard Bank transactional account customers or Standard Bank customers residing in Namibia, Swaziland or Lesotho, certified copies or originals of these documents will have to be posted to us.


Partnership - South African Standard Bank transactional account customer

  1. Constitution or partnership agreement
  2. Original resolution covering opening, appointing of authorised representative and operating of account. (Refer above)
  3. For each partner of partnership’s, copy of current valid SA ID (if resident)/passport (if foreigner), documentary proof of residential address and income tax number
  4. For all partners of partnership, copy of current valid South African ID (if resident) /passport (if foreigner)
  5. Proof of SA income tax reference number and VAT registration number as obtained from SARS
  6. Written confirmation of the residential address and contact particulars of all partners signed by the authorized representative.(Refer Above)
  7. Signed copy of valid South African ID and documentary proof of residential address for authorised representative (e.g. recent water and lights bill or telephone a/c) not older than three months
  8. Latest bank statement of the Partnership bank account

Trust - South African Standard Bank transactional account customer

  1. Letters of Authority signed by the Master of the High Court
  2. Trust deed or other founding document
  3. Resolution specifying who is authorised to act on behalf of the Trust
  4. Identification documents of persons authorised to act on behalf of the Trust; e.g. ID Book or Passport for Foreigners
  5. Proof of address of persons authorised to act on behalf of the Trust; e.g. utility bill not older than 3 months
  6. Identification documents of all the trustees and beneficiaries; e.g. ID Book or Passport for Foreigners
  7. Written confirmation of the residential address and contact particulars of all trustees and beneficiaries signed by the authorized representative.(Refer Above)
  8. Identification document of the founder of the Trust; e.g. ID Book or Passport for Foreigners
  9. Proof of address of the Founder of the Trust (if not deceased)
  10. Income tax reference number of the Trust as obtained from SARS
  11. Latest bank statement of the trust bank account
  12. The latest annual financial statements or a letter signed by the authorised representative detailing the customer’s financial position together with supporting documents (salary, commission, fees, bonus, bank statements, bank cash flow, investment or annuity statements, interest and dividends, rental income, savings or retirement proceeds, inheritance, surrender of or maturing assets, proceeds from sale of assets, official tax return statement, other)

Company - South African Standard Bank transactional account customer

  1. Certificate of Incorporation (CM1)
  2. Certificate of change of name of company (CM9) (if applicable)
  3. Notice of Registered Office and Postal Address (CM22)
  4. Contents of Register of Directors, Auditors and Officers (CM29)
  5. Memorandum and Articles of Association
  6. Proof of operating address of the Company. e.g. utility bill (not older than 3 months) reflecting the name and operating / business address of the company
  7. Identification documents of all directors or people managing the company. e.g. ID Book or Passport for Foreigners
  8. Written confirmation of the residential address and contact particulars of all directors or people managing the company signed by the authorized representative.(Refer Above)
  9. A company’s resolution specifying who is authorised to act on behalf of the Company or alternatively complete a resolution template that will be issued to you by SBG Securities (Pty) Ltd detailing who will be authorised to act on behalf of the Company in all dealings with SBG Securities (Pty) Ltd
  10. Identification documents of persons authorised to act on behalf of the Company. e.g. ID Book or Passport for Foreigners
  11. Proof of address of persons authorised to act on behalf of the Company
  12. Written confirmation of the company’s shareholding
  13. Identification documents of natural persons holding 25% or more of the voting rights in the Company if applicable. e.g. ID Book or Passport for Foreigners
  14. Written confirmation of the residential address and contact particulars of the natural persons holding 25% or more of the voting rights in the company
  15. Registration documents of legal entities holding 25% or more of the voting rights in the Company
  16. Written confirmation of operating address and contact particulars of legal entities holding 25% or more of the voting rights in the company
  17. Income tax reference number and VAT registration number as obtained from SARS
  18. Latest bank account statement for the company

Closed Corporation (CC) - South African Standard Bank transactional account customer

  1. Founding Statement and Certificate of Incorporation (CK1)
  2. Amended Founding Statement (CK2) (if applicable)
  3. Proof of business / operating address of the Close Corporation e.g. utility bill (not older than 3 months) reflecting the Close Corporation’s name and business address
  4. List and Identification documents of all the members of the Close Corporation. e.g. ID Book for South African residence and Passports for foreigners
  5. Written confirmation of the residential address and contact particulars of all members of the Close Corporation
  6. Resolution specifying who is authorised to act on behalf of the Close Corporation or alternatively complete a resolution template that will be issued to you by SBG Securities (Pty) Ltd detailing who will be authorised to act on behalf of the Close Corporation in all dealings with SBG Securities (Pty) Ltd
  7. Identification documents of all the persons authorised to act on behalf of the Close Corporation. e.g. ID Book or Passport for Foreigners
  8. Proof of address for persons authorised to act on behalf of the close corporation. e.g. utility bill not older than 3 months
  9. Latest bank statement for the close corporation. i.e. not older than 3 months
  10. Documentary proof of SA income tax reference number and VAT registration number as obtained from SARS
